MAJOLICA
A simple definition of majolica: “tin-glazed earthenware that is often richly colored and decorated, especially an earthenware of this type produced in Italy”
Stefania Binati’s majolica products seen in florenceinabox.com are a combination of refined artistic sense and accurate production.
Today the ceramic reproduction and decoration in her Florentine workshop is brought about just as it was 300 years ago; from the mixing of the clay, to the forming, turning, and painting ending with the firing at 920° Celsius in a refractory kiln, with the help of some small technological aids.
All the objects such as vases, umbrella stands, cachepots, jugs and much more have been inspired by many Italian artists of the 1600 and 1700 century.
Furthermore, Binati crafts original items made completely by hand which also evoke the ceramics created in Europe during 15th and 16th centuries. Articles such are soup tureens with matching under tray, plates, stands, apothecary jars, holy water fonts, shaving basins are carefully and accurately made.
